Flagstaff Family Day Home has several educators, each committed to providing quality child care in a home like environment. Each educator has had to go through an extensive screening process in order to be an approved family day home. Each home is visited on a monthly basis to ensure that they are following Provincial Standards.

“Being new to the area, and a first time parent; I found myself a little lost and concerned about finding and choosing childcare. I was given the recommendation to contact the Flagstaff Satellite Day Home Society and am really glad I did. They paired my family with a loving home that fits all our needs. I feel very comfortable using their services in comparison to that of a private home. I know that standards are met, and that the providers are receiving proper support from the society as well as governing agencies. My daughter looks forward to spending time with her day home family and asks about them when she spends time away from there. I can count on nutritious meal planning, scheduled exercise, outdoor time, reading, learning and play. My husband and I cannot express enough gratitude in regards to our child’s welfare and care while she is away from us. I highly recommend the society to any family looking for quality care in the county.”
-Nora S.

"My daughter loves her day home: they go to play centers and have fun days out. I would recommend my provider to anyone who wants their children taken care of in the same manner as they would take care of them. She is a loving person who takes the time to create a great bond with the child. My daughter is always excited to go there in the morning and play with her new friends."
-Cassandra C.

Why choose a licensed family day home?

checkmark icon Affordability Grant

Families that are enrolled in an approved child care program may automatically apply for the Alberta Affordability Grant. This is a separate “grant” than child care subsidy and something families do not have to apply for. The grants are provided directly to the day home agency so they can apply them to your child care bill. Funding is provided for each child based on how many hours the child is in care, the age range and type of care. Please follow the following link to learn more about the federal-provincial child care agreement. https://www.alberta.ca/federal-provincial-child-care-agreement.aspx

checkmark icon Focus on Child Development

We are passionate about what we do and stay up to date on the latest research on child development by attending conferences and hosting regular learning opportunities locally.

checkmark icon Quality Enhancement & Safety

We hold in-home quality enhancement visits on a monthly basis. This includes programming visits, how to engage children in play, and provide support as needed. Toys and equipment must meet safety standards. Providers must maintain a clear Criminal Record Check and Child Welfare Check. Every provider is also trained in Child Care First Aid.

checkmark icon Warmth of a Home Environment

We encourage a natural child care setting where children can use their imaginations, receive more one-on-one time, and build their social skills.

checkmark icon Health & Nutrition

Educators are required to follow the Canada Food Guide when preparing meals and snacks. Snacks must consist of two food groups. Lunch must consist of all four food groups. Educators are required to promote healthy habits such as hand washing. Prior to opening for the day, educatorss are required to complete a safety check of their home.

checkmark icon Workshops

We hold monthly educator meetings where we have guest speakers, complete online courses, or complete some professional development activities. Past topics include: child intervention, child safety restraint, hand washing, menu planning, and documentation tips.

checkmark icon Backup Child Care

When possible (when there is more than one day home in a community) we will help arrange backup care arrangements with another day home educator with our agency if your regular provider is unavailable.

checkmark icon Educated Educators

Our educators are well educated and open to new ideas, with many having their Level II (Child Care Assistant) completed.

We believe that playing outdoors every day in all kinds of weather helps children create the habits they will need to lead a healthy and active life.

checkmark icon Experience

Having been in business for over 20 years, we are a professionally-run agency with many ties to our community.

checkmark icon Subsidy

Child Care Fees

Currently the fee per child is strictly on an hourly basis. The parent pays for the hours that their child(ren) are in care. The current rate is $4.64 per hour. The rate increases to $5.50 per hour over 9 hours. In addition to the hourly rate, each family is charged a monthly administration fee as follows:

  • -$25 per family for casual care (25 hours or less)
  • -$40 per family for part time care (25-100 hours)
  • -$50 per family for full time care (over 100 hours)

Child Care fees are paid directly to the agency. The agency then pays the educators. Fees are due prior to the last business day of the month. They can be paid by cash, cheque and now by e-Transfer.

Please email e-Transfers to: dayhome@flagstafffcs.ca. Please see your monthly invoice for the security question and password to use.

*Please note that the administration fee can be waived if you become a board member and attend meetings on a monthly basis.
